Margot Robbie Producing Harley Quinn Spinoff; There Will Be No Joker In 'Justice League'

Warner Bros. has few silver linings to grasp onto at the moment when it comes to their wobbly launch of the DC Films universe. Sure, “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” may have decent box office numbers on paper (though let’s not forget the budgets for both pictures were stratospheric), but in terms of leaving the kind of vote of confidence Marvel has with their movies, the studio has a long way to go. That said, most can agree that one person who delivered exactly what the fans were looking for is Margot Robbie in her portrayal of Harley Quinn in “Suicide Squad.” Indeed, even before the film was released, it was revealed that a spinoff focused on the character was in the works, and it was a project pitched by Robbie herself. And it looks like WB is eager to retain her involvement as it develops.

THR reports that Robbie has signed a first look deal with the studio, and as part of the many irons in the fire she has at WB, the actress will be executive producing the Harley Quinn movie via her LuckyChap Entertainment banner. Details on what exactly the Harley Quinn movie will entail are still thin on the ground, but it will involve other female heroes and villains from the comics, with Batgirl and Birds Of Prey as possibilities. Either way, WB and DC Films has a lot of faith in Robbie.

Meanwhile, as Zack Snyder continues to put together “Justice League” for next year, one character you won’t be seeing is Jared Leto‘s Joker. The Wrap reporter Umberto Gonzalez squashed rumors that had been swirling recently about the possibility of Leto reprising the iconic villain, so you can scratch him for the flick, which frankly is just as well. The character deserves a substantive role, rather than the incidental treatment he got in “Suicide Squad.”
