Just when you thought you were safe from another awards show this weekend, the 2025 American Society of Cinematographers said, “Not so fast.” The ASC Awards were held on Sunday night, staggered after the end of the SAG Awards. This year’s top winner was Edward Lachman for “Maria.” This is his first ASC win on his fifth nomination.

The ASC’s Film Prize has lined up with the Oscar winner for Best Cinematography 18 times over the past 38 years. That includes last year when Hoyte van Hoytema won both trophies for “Oppenheimer.”
The Spotlight Award went to Jomo Fray for “Nickel Boys.” He won the Best Cinematography honor at the Spirit Awards yesterday. The Documentary Award went to Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw for “Gaucho Gaucho.”
In other categories, Robert Elswit took the Limited or Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made For Television prize for “Ripley.” Richard Rutkowski won the Episode of a Half-Hour series category for “Sugar.” Sam McCurdy the ASC for Episode of a One-Hour Regular Series for “Shōgun.”
Pepe Avila del Pino won the ASC Music Video Award for “313” (Performed by Residente, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, and Penelope Cruz).
There ceremony also featured seven honorary awards. Andrzej Bartkowiak, ASC won the Lifetime Achievement Award. Michael Goi, ASC, ISC took the Career Achievement in Television. John Simmons, ASC won the Presidents Award. Joan Churchill received the Lifetime Documentary Award. Pete Romano, ASC was honored with the Curtis Clark ASC Technology Award and Kathleen Kennedy received the Board of Governors Award.
Suzanne Lezotte won the Bud Stone Award for Distinction.
