Got a Tip?

Presidential Candidate Marianne Williamson Seriously Loves ‘Avatar’ & Thinks James Cameron Deserved The Nobel Peace Prize

The US Presidential Election isn’t until November 2020, but that doesn’t mean we are able to avoid election talk in June 2019. In fact, this week marked the first debates amongst the Democratic candidates, hoping to earn the nomination and take on President Donald Trump next year.

And over the course of the two debates, there were winners and losers (we’ll let other sites handle that sort of breakdown), but one of the people that came out of the week with some more notoriety is the candidate Marianne Williamson. And you know what that means. It’s time to scour her social media past for embarrassing tweets!

As of now, there haven’t been any tweets of a racist or bigoted variety, as we normally see in this sort of story. Instead, what we’ve found (as pointed out by the folks at UPROXX) is that Williamson is a huge ‘Avatar’ stan. Yes, the 2009 James Cameron film, which is the highest grossing movie of all time, is one of the candidate’s favorites.

Back in 2010, after that year’s Oscars, Williamson took to Twitter and wrote, “All the films were good but AVATAR has changed the world. He didn’t win an Oscar tonight, but James Cameron deserves a Nobel Peace Price [sic].”

Now, you may be thinking, “But back then, there was a lot of love for ‘Avatar,’ so we shouldn’t pick on her for her opinions from a decade ago!” Well, dear reader, there’s more.

You see, in 2017, the Dem candidate once again invoked the name of James Cameron’s blue alien epic and tweeted, “If you want a simple explanation for what’s happening in America, watch AVATAR again.”

Apparently, a story of smurf-like aliens who have sex through their ponytails is going to show you all the ills of society. Okay…

Kidding aside, the idea that Williamson is an unabashed “Avatar” fan isn’t something that should sway your opinion about her political future one way or another. Obviously, for some, it will. But for the large part of the country, it’s more about what she intends on doing if she’s given the keys to rule the US.

That being said, if she is going to lead our country, let’s give her some quality film recommendations before she talks about Na’vi in front of the UN or something.
