Mark Wahlberg Reveals Role In 'Mojave,' Amy Ryan Joins 'Monster Trucks' & More

While he’ll be featuring in the self-described “biggest movie of 2014” with “Transformers: Age Of Extinction,” the always busy Mark Wahlberg has a number of other movies percolating that are smaller and much more interesting (at least for us). And he’s revealed the status of a few of them to the folks at Collider.

In case you were wondering, Rupert Wyatt‘s “The Gambler” has wrapped, the actor revealed, with the William Monahan-written remake of the 1974 movie one to keep an eye out for. And Wahlberg added that he made another contribution to a Monahan-affiliated project, adding that he also took a “small part” in “Mojave,” the next directorial effort from the writer starring Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund. Also, there’s one more thing: Wahlberg reveals he’ll be reuniting with “Lone Survivor” director Peter Berg to shoot “American Desperado” in September.

Fox 2000 are clearly pretty happy with “The Fault In Our Stars,” and are already looking to duplicate that magic. Deadline reports they’re optioned another Josh Green book, “Paper Towns,” tasking ‘Fault’ writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber to adapt, and ‘Fault’ star Nat Wolff to take the lead. The story follows “Quentin, a young man who shared a jarring experience with his neighbor Margo: They found a man who committed suicide. They grew apart, but one night he finds her at his bedroom window, dressed like a ninja. She enlists him in a campaign to get revenge on people who’ve hurt her. Next day, she vanishes as he is left to ponder the ramifications of the evening. Then he begins getting clues from her and has to follow them.” And we’d wager if ‘Fault’ does well this summer, development on this one will be kicked up a notch.

Meanwhile, “Monster Trucks” continues to roll along with Deadline reporting that Amy Ryan has joined the cast. She’ll feature alongside leads Jane Levy and Lucas Till in the Chris Wedge-directed toy movie, about which plot details are being kept secret. But this much has been revealed: Ryan will play “a the single mom trying to make ends meet while raising her teenage son.”

Lastly, production has started on “Our Kind Of Traitor” starring Ewan McGregor and Stellan Skarsgård, and a few more cast members have been revealed. Damian Lewis, Naomie Harris, and Jeremy Northam are among the ensemble in the adaptation of John le Carré‘s novel that follows an English couple, Perry (McGregor) and Gail (Harris), on holiday in Marrakech.  By chance they bump into a Russian millionaire called Dima (Skarsgård) who owns a villa and a diamond-encrusted gold watch. He also has a tattoo on his right thumb, and wants a game of tennis. What else he wants propels the couple on a tortuous journey through Paris to a safe house in the Swiss Alps, to the murkiest cloisters of the City of London and its unholy alliance with Britain’s Intelligence Establishment. Susanna White (“Generation Kill“) directs.
