Martin Scorsese had to do a lot to get “The Irishman” made. But years after he began work on it, last year saw the legendary filmmaker release his crime drama in all its unabridged glory. Well, it appears that Scorsese is going to quickly make a comeback on your TV screen, albeit not in the way you might be expecting.
According to a teaser released for a new Coke Super Bowl ad (via AdAge), the filmmaker is set to make an appearance during this Sunday’s big sporting event in a new minute-long ad for Coke Energy. (For those wondering, Coke Energy is a new product being released that has the same amount of sugar but close to three times the amount of caffeine.) But the quick teaser doesn’t do anything really to let us know what Scorsese’s role in the ad will be.

At a cost that is $5.6 million for thirty seconds and $10 million for a full minute, it’s clear that Coke is making sure that the company gets its money’s worth by adding Scorsese, and whoever else appears, to the new Coke Energy ad. As we’ve seen already this year with Hyundai and Mountain Dew, the new Super Bowl commercials won’t be short of A-list celebs. But really, who would have thought that Scorsese would be part of one?
The full 60-second ad is expected to debut during the Super Bowl this Sunday. Until then, feel free to watch the quick tease for the ad below. Who do you think Scorsese is texting?
