For fans of Marvel’s recent run on Netflix, with shows like “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Defenders,” and “The Punisher,” the last couple months have been dark times. Out of those six shows, only two remain — “Jessica Jones” and “The Punisher.” And likely the only reason those shows live on is because seasons are either already in the can or in production currently. Anyway, it appears that Marvel and Netflix are going through a rough patch, and a divorce is looming. And the children involved will likely choose to live at Marvel’s new home.

After the sudden cancelation of “Daredevil” yesterday evening, fans were reeling. What’s happening to Marvel/Netflix’s flagship character? Weren’t the actors and writers talking up season 4? What does this mean for the other Marvel/Netflix shows? Well, according to a new statement from Marvel, it sure does sound like that at least the character of Daredevil will live on, just with a new home.
The Disney-owned company said (via Deadline), “Marvel is extremely grateful to the huge audience that loved Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’… We are incredibly proud of the amazing showrunners and writers…and our casts who brought our characters to life with such excellence.”
Marvel finished the statement by dropping a not-so-subtle hint at the future, saying, “We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future.”

Obviously, this is about as much confirmation as we’re likely to receive about the real reason these Marvel shows seem to be leaving Netflix en masse — Disney+. We know that Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige is bringing a slate of limited series focused on the big-screen ‘Avengers,’ but it would make sense that Disney would want its new streaming service to have some recognizable characters found exclusively on Disney+.
This could easily happen by re-introducing Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and the rest in a new series, with new actors. Effectively rebooting the group. And maybe, this time, we can have Feige oversee the whole damn thing.
Either way, the crux of the story is simple — Netflix and Marvel seem to be on the outs, but the characters will live on.
Here’s Marvel’s full statement, as well as a recent tweet from the “Daredevil” Twitter after news of the cancelation:
“Marvel is extremely grateful to the huge audience that loved Marvel’s ‘Daredevil.’ From the moment of young Matt’s first act of heroism to the birth of Page, Murdock, & Nelson, it has been an unbelievable journey. We are incredibly proud of the amazing showrunners and writers starting with Drew Goddard and Steven DeKnight, Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie and Erik Oleson, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Vincent D’Onofrio and our casts who brought our characters to life with such excellence, and every one of the fantastic crews in NYC. We look forward to more adventures with the Man without Fear in the future.”

Man, so weird to be in the Daredevil writers room today, getting the news that we're cancelled. On the walls were an entire season 4 laid out – and it was so f***g cool. So many moments we wanted the fans to see… Sigh, this business.

Sometimes a gig is just a paycheck. When we’re lucky, it’s so much more.
There was something magical about working on #Daredevil Season 3.
We all felt it.
