Earlier this year, Marvel Studios was able to accomplish something that was merely teased a decade prior when it released “Avengers: Endgame” and finally brought together all of its franchises into one climactic film that capped off almost two-dozen films. This left fans with a ton of questions, led by the obvious one — what’s next? Well, according to Marvel Studios producer Trinh Tran, ‘Endgame’ wasn’t just the end of Phase 3 and the Infinity Saga, but also ushered in a new era that likely won’t feature a major crossover event for the foreseeable future.
Speaking to CinemaBlend, Tran was asked whether or not there’s a new epic, ‘Avengers’-esque crossover in the works for the future. And somewhat surprisingly, it appears that Marvel Studios is focused less on trying to replicate ‘Endgame’ and more about taking its time to build up more franchises so that there could be another crossover of that magnitude perhaps in the next decade.

“Our focus right now is to make sure that the titles that we’ve released in Phase 4… obviously those stories are going to be new, exciting, different and can connect with the audience like the other movies have been,” said the producer. “Over 10 years ago, it’s always been our dream to get to ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ level. We didn’t know obviously where that was going to go at the start of the studio, but it’s incredible to know that we were able to accomplish that.”
She continued, “Now it’d be amazing if we could get to that level 10 years later, so I think it’s a dream to continue doing that and build upon the MCU and the connective tissue that we have. And now with obviously our Disney+ side and the shows and how our characters are venturing into that world and how that’s gonna lead to the future and more franchises and more stories and more properties and their connective tissue to the rest of the MCU, it would be amazing to do something like this 10 years later.”
Obviously, Marvel Studios is probably getting a bit of pressure from Disney to figure out what the next box office behemoth is going to be, considering ‘Endgame’ is the highest-grossing film of all time. However, if Tran is to be believed (and it’s honestly difficult to know when Marvel execs are actually telling the truth), then fans shouldn’t expect some epic crossover film anytime soon.
This might seem shocking at first, especially considering ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ were released a year apart, but when you look at the previous schedule of Marvel Studios films, ‘Avengers’ entries were released three years apart. So, while we shouldn’t expect another ‘Endgame’-level film for another decade, who’s to say that there isn’t a “Captain America: Civil War”-sized mini-crossover coming sooner? Or maybe a new ‘Avengers’ film can take a step back and focus on a smaller story in three-to-five years?
At this point, we’ll just have to wait and see because obviously the folks at Marvel Studios aren’t going to spill the beans early.
