RUMOR: Marvel Studios Developing Disney+ Series About Lady Sif From 'Thor'

Apparently, Loki isn’t enough and Marvel Studios is already interested in exploring yet another Asgardian TV series for Disney+.

Now, before we get to the news, let’s make sure you have your salt handy because this is most definitely something that should be put in the “rumor” file. But that being said, if it is the case, this potential TV series could make a lot of fans happy, and might actually make some decent business sense.

Discussing Film says that Marvel Studios is beginning to develop a new Disney+ streaming series based on the character of Lady Sif from the ‘Thor’ films. The site also claims that Jamie Alexander, the actress who played the warrior in her multiple MCU appearances, would reprise her role for the new series.

Let’s take a look at the positives and negatives surrounding a potential new “Sif” series. First, let’s discuss the reasons why this rumor just doesn’t make much sense. Kevin Feige has been fairly clear in his dislike (or maybe just how he wants to distance himself) of the Marvel TV series produced outside of Marvel Studios (i.e. – everything on Netflix, Hulu, ABC, and elsewhere). And Sif has already appeared in “Agents of SHIELD,” which probably makes the idea of a solo series a little less unique.

Also, compared to the “Vision and Scarlet Witch,” “Loki,” and “Falcon and Winter Soldier” series, “Sif” is a fairly large step down in star power for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service series produced by Marvel TV. Sif started as a fairly major side-character in the ‘Thor’ mythos, but the character has been absent from just about everything since ‘The Dark World’ and the aforementioned ‘SHIELD’ appearance. And let’s be real, if Marvel Studios wanted to do a female warrior series with ‘Thor’ ties, why wouldn’t they work on a series focused on Valkryie?

That being said, there are some reasons a “Sif” series makes sense. As mentioned, the idea of a female warrior property, in the wake of the success of “Wonder Woman,” sounds like a potential hit. We should also take into consideration Alexander’s excitement surrounding her character, which means she’d probably jump at the opportunity to reprise the role. And finally, there’s a strong contingent of fans that think “Sif” got a raw deal being excluded from ‘Ragnarok’ (she wasn’t even on screen for 5 seconds to be killed) and ‘Infinity War,’ and deserves more shine.

Either way, it’s an interesting idea to ponder and if true, could be yet another fun series coming fans’ way on Disney’s upcoming streaming service.
