Mastodon Scoring ‘Jonah Hex’

Are concept-laden Atlanta heavy-rockers Mastodon scoring “Jonah Hex,” the new D.C. Comics live adaptation as AICN says?

Tis true. We’ve heard about this for months through a close Atlanta source, and sadly, it couldn’t be confirmed at the time. However, we are now happy to report the good news.

Directed by Jimmy Hayward (“Horton Hears a Who!”, it’s his live-action debut) and based off a rather absurd script by the “Crank” guys Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor (we put it down rather quickly, it seemed uber-silly and one-note), ‘Hex’ has a great cast — Josh Brolin, Michael Fassbender, Megan Fox, John Malkovich, Michael Shannon — but the concept and idea is a little ridiculous.

However, if one is going to pull this off, over-the-top is the way to do it and maybe Mastodon can salvage this thing with a brutal and bludgeoning score. For us, they’re really one of the film’s only hopes.

“Jonah Hex” hits theaters June 18, 2010. Hopefully, if it’s a trainwreck, it will at least be a fun ride.
