'MaXXXine': Mia Goth Describes Upcoming Horror Sequel As "A Superhero Movie"

After the surprising success of both “X” and “Pearl” last year, film fans are dying to see what Ti West and his star, Mia Goth, have up their sleeves for the final part of the trilogy, “MaXXXine.” Well, according to a new interview with Total Film, it sounds as if the third film is going to be just as surprising in its tone as the other two.

In the interview, Mia Goth, who plays both Pearl and Maxine in the franchise, used a surprising description when asked about what fans can expect from “MaXXXine.”

“I see ‘MaXXXine’ as a superhero movie – that’s how I read the script,” said Goth. “Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot. When we meet her again, in this new world that she’s in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give that up. She’s going to fight for what she has. She’s a badass. There’s a strength to her. And she’s a really proactive, determined, focused woman. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not really going to take no for an answer.”

For those unaware, “MaXXXine” is a sequel to “X” and follows the story of the survivor of a vicious killer as she attempts to continue her career in Los Angeles in the 1980s. And it’s clear from Goth’s description of the film, Maxine has become a bit of a “badass” and is stronger after the horrific events of “X.”

Unlike other horror franchises, there’s still quite a bit of mystery surrounding “MaXXXine,” as West and Goth have delivered two completely different films previously in the trilogy. “X” is a straight-up (though incredibly stylish and well-acted) slasher, while “Pearl” is a prequel that adopts a more classic Hollywood feel. So, it’ll be exciting to see what “MaXXXine” does to switch things up in the finale.

“MaXXXine” is currently in production now and a release date has yet to be announced.
