The Oscars still haven’t announced their host (or hosts), but the Spirit Awards are all set. Film Independent’s venerable showcase is returning to the beach and to two new hosts. This year, Megan Mullaney and Nick Offerman will emcee the annual Santa Monica beach event.

In a statement, Mullally and Offerman remarked, “We are sincerely excited to be hosting the 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards. We hope to get a little rowdy, but it’ll mainly be legitimate cinematic discourse. Although, with the two of us involved, it’s more likely to be intercourse. Either way it’ll be legit.”
Film Independent President Josh Welsh added, “The dream team! Why have just one host when you can have two? We’re delighted to have Megan and Nick on board to bring the magic back to the beach. I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!”
Said IFC General Manager Blake Callaway noted, “The Spirit Awards are back. After a year away, it is exciting to be back at the beach, live and in person, with this spectacular duo. Megan and Nick will make this year and this stop on the awards’ calendar one to remember.”
Mullally and Offerman become the first married couple to host the telecast and they have a slew of independent film credits on their resumes. Mullally is best known for her Emmy-winning role on “Will & Grace” but has starred in films such as “Burlesque,” “The Kings of Summer,” “The Disaster Artist” and “Where’d You Go, Bernadette.”
Offerman came to public prominence on “Parks and Recreation,” but has a long list of film roles including “Sin City,” “The Men Who Stare At Goats,” “21 Jump Street,” “In a World…,” “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” “Knight of Cups,” “The Founder,” “The Hero” and “Bad Times at the El Royale.”
The duo joins a long list of notable Spirit Awards hosts including Samuel L. Jackson, Queen Latifah, John Waters, Sarah Silverman, Eddie Izzard, Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani, Nick Kroll and John Mulaney, Aubrey Plaza, and, most recently, Melissa Villaseñor.
The 2022 Film Independent Spirit Awards has moved from its traditional staging the day before the Oscars and, instead, will be held on Sunday, March 6. It will air live on IFC and AMC+ at 5 PM ET/ 2 PM PT.
