Got a Tip?

New Best Friends Mel Gibson And Mark Wahlberg To Team Up In Two Upcoming Films

It appears we’re getting that “Daddy’s Home 2” reunion that everyone’s been clamoring for!

Well, maybe that’s a bit of hyperbole, but still, Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg are teaming up for a new World War II drama titled “Destroyer,” according to The Wrap. But that’s not all! It also appears like these two BFF’s are looking to team up even sooner on Wahlberg’s upcoming big-screen adaptation of “The Six Billion Dollar Man.”

Yes, we’re aware that’s a lot of Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg news to digest. Maybe we’re looking at the new Scorsese and DiCaprio-style relationship?

“Destroyer” is based on the book “Hell from the Heavens: The Epic Story of the USS Laffey and World War II’s Greatest Kamikaze Attack,” by author John Wukovits. It tells the story of the Battle of Okinawa, where the USS Laffey survived 22 kamikaze attacks. The script is written by Rosalind Ross.

“The Six Billion Dollar Man” is based on the dated, but similarly-titled, “The Six Million Dollar Man” television series. The series followed a secret agent that is superpowered thanks to a bunch of expensive bionic components that were implanted in his body. The film is being directed by Damián Szifron, best known for his film “Wild Tales,” who also penned the script.

As far as a timeline goes, it seems as if ‘Six Billion Dollar Man’ will be first up for the Gibson/Wahlberg alliance, with both starring in the film. Then, if all goes well, Gibson will go behind the camera to direct “Destroyer” with Wahlberg starring. That is, of course, dependent on the two actors fostering a close-knit friendship that propels both their careers forward into incredible new heights. Or at least audiences will get two pretty cool action movies out of it.

There’s no release date for “Destroyer,” but “The Six Billion Dollar Man” is scheduled to hit theaters next summer.
