Mel Gibson To Star Opposite Charlie Hunnam & Eiza Gonzalez In Action-Thriller 'Waldo'

Add another project to the growing schedule of actor-writer-director Mel Gibson. After carefully picking and choosing his films, while attempting his comeback after controversy, Gibson is now in full-on A-lister mode again, signing on for multiple blockbuster projects. And his latest sees him team up with up and coming actress Eiza Gonzalez and someone desperate for a hit, Charlie Hunnam.

Gibson, Hunnam, and Gonzalez are set to star in the big screen adaptation of the popular novel “Last Looks,” titled “Waldo.” The action-packed thriller stars Hunnam as a brilliant ex-detective gone rogue, Charlie Waldo. The former detective leaves his quiet, secluded life in the woods when he’s roped back into working as a private eye to investigate the murder of a television star’s wife. The film will be directed by Tim Kirkby, who is best known for his work on “Veep” and “Fleabag.”

Hunnam has been an actor that has attempted to launch a variety of film franchises, including “Pacific Rim” and “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.” After being the star of FX’s massively popular “Sons of Anarchy” for seven seasons, Hunnam has yet to find that huge box office hit that sends him into the acting A-list. His most recent attempts include “Papillon” and the upcoming “A Million Little Pieces.” He also has “Triple Frontier,” “The True History of the Kelly Gang,” and “Jungleland” coming in 2019.

As mentioned, Gibson has been very busy lately. After “Daddy’s Home 2” saw the actor come back to the mainstream, the star has hit the ground running. His most recent film “Dragged Across Concrete” sees Gibson return to the action-thriller realm. And he also has “The Professor and the Madman,” “Boss Level,” and “War Pigs” coming up on his acting slate. This is in addition to his planned remake of “The Wild Bunch” that he’ll write-direct.

Gonzalez hit the American mainstream with her supporting role in Edgar Wright’sBaby Driver.” Before that, she was already a huge star in her native Mexico, as a singer and actress. She’ll next be seen in December’s “Welcome to Marwen,” and next year in “Alita: Battle Angel,” “Bloodshot,” and “Kung Fury.”

No word on a release date for “Waldo,” but filming is expected to commence in the beginning of 2019.
