Mel Gibson's Hollywood Comeback May Include A Role In 'Daddy's Home 2' With Will Ferrell & Mark Wahlberg

Last week, Mel Gibson‘s “Hacksaw Ridge” earned six Oscar nominations, including nods in big categories like Best Picture and Best Director. That recognition from the Academy, following a year of goodwill extended to Gibson combined with gestures of contrition from the embattled filmmaker, essentially marked his redemption in the industry. There are plenty who feel he shouldn’t be welcomed back into Hollywood given the racist and sexist outbursts from his past, but those dissenting voices seem to be getting smaller and smaller.

Certainly, Paramount has no problem extending the olive branch, as Deadline reports that both Gibson and John Lithgow are being courted by the studio for roles in the sequel to “Daddy’s Home.” The pair would join Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg in the comedy follow-up, and I would imagine they would take grandfather-type parts and raise hell for their sons. These kinds of movies aren’t terribly hard to write.

Nothing is official yet, deals have to be worked out and all that stuff, but the wheels are in motion. “Daddy’s Home 2” will open on November 10th, because these movies aren’t hard to make, either.
