A wise person once said, “If you can’t make a Season 3 of ‘Big Little Lies,’ move onto your next Liane Moriarty novel to adapt for TV.” We can’t confirm the origins of the age-old saying, but some might trace it back to Nicole Kidman, as she is now working on a brand new series for Hulu where she’ll star in another show based on a novel from Moriarty, “Nine Perfect Strangers.” And just as she did in “Big Little Lies,” Kidman is bringing another A-lister along for the ride.

According to THR, Melissa McCarthy is set to join Kidman in the cast of the upcoming Hulu drama “Nine Perfect Strangers,” based on the novel of the same name by Moriarty. In addition to Kidman and Moriarty, ‘Strangers’ also marks the return of David E. Kelley, the producer-showrunner of the aforementioned, Emmy-winning HBO Series.
“Nine Perfect Strangers” tells the story of a wellness resort run by Masha (Kidman) and the nine city dwellers that come there to find a better way to live. As you might expect, McCarthy is set to play one of the nine titular strangers.
The new Hulu series marks the return to TV for McCarthy, who first hit superstar status as one of the leads in the long-running CBS hit sitcom “Mike and Molly.” Since then, she’s gone on to become a popular comedic and dramatic actress, landing two Oscar nominations for “Bridesmaids” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” respectively.
Kelley is co-writing and co-showrunning “Nine Perfect Strangers” alongside John-Henry Butterworth, who is probably best known for his work on the recent film “Ford v. Ferrari.” Both are joined by Samantha Strauss, a TV writing veteran, who will co-write the series with the other two gentlemen.
