Because why not right? With cowboys squaring off against aliens, Abraham Lincoln fighting vampires and Hansel and Gretel taking on a coven of witches, these genre mashups aren’t going to end anytime soon.
Deadline reports that Sony has picked up the rights to “Inherit the Earth,” a spec script by video game writer and filmmaker J.T. Petty (“Splinter Cell,” “The Burrowers“) based on the comic series “Zombies vs. Robots.” The story centers “on a young girl who is the last survivor on earth. She is protected by a group of robots from a pack of zombies that are intelligent and evolved.” Smart play by Sony who surely must’ve noticed all the buzz around that “Dead Island” video game trailer. People love zombies.
But hold your breath, genre fans. The project will be produced by Michael Bay‘s Platinum Dunes shingle which has been responsible for a string of terrible horror reboots, including “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “Friday the 13th,” “A Nightmare On Elm Street” and “The Hitcher.” So keep your expectations in check.
