Michael Mann Discusses His Crime Epic ‘Heat’ In Final Episode Of ‘One Heat Minute’ Podcast

It’s hard to imagine that Michael Mann has only directed 11 feature films over his career. Debuting way back in 1981, with the film “Thief,” the filmmaker has turned in classics like “Manhunter,” “The Last of the Mohicans,” “The Insider,” and of course, “Heat.” And it’s that last film that caught the eye of the people behind the podcast One Heat Minute.

The One Heat Minute podcast is a deep dive into a film, unlike any other deep dive you’ve probably seen. Analyzing the classic crime epic, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Val Kilmer, the podcast breaks down “Heat” minute by minute, devoting full episodes to each 60-second interval. And to finish the podcast off, filmmaker Michael Mann guests to talk about the final minute of the feature, as well as give an overview of the film and tell some stories.

As with anytime a director is allowed to talk about a seminal work, the One Heat Minute podcast finale is required listening for fans of the craft, Mann, “Heat,” and just film, in general. Mann is an endlessly fascinating creator and clearly has a love of the film that he wrote, produced, and directed.

He has so much of a love for the film that he’s actually revisiting the characters for an upcoming novel that he is planning on releasing in 2020. So, consider this podcast a good primer for the eventual novel when it comes out next year.
