Kevin Feige's 'Star Wars' Film Nabs 'Loki' Writer, Who Will Also Work On Season 2 Of The Marvel Series

As we’ve seen with The Russo Brothers, James Gunn, Taika Waititi, and others, if Kevin Feige likes to work with you, he’ll keep hiring you for projects. And apparently, that favor has been given to Michael Waldron, who has reportedly just signed the biggest deal of his career, putting him smack dab in the center of both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the “Star Wars” franchise.

According to Deadline, Waldron has just signed a new deal with Disney that will see him take over the writing duties of the long-in-development “Star Wars” film that Kevin Feige has been attached to as a producer. No details are still known about the project, but given Waldron’s past with Feige, this makes total sense.

In addition to working with Feige on the new “Star Wars” film, Waldron has previously written “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and has been creator-showrunner-writer of the forthcoming “LokiDisney+ streaming series. The report also claims that part of the deal with Waldron and Disney will also include the writer returning for the second season of “Loki.” Clearly, this is someone that knows how to play well in the studio system and someone that has caught the eye of Feige. Both of which are not bad things if you aim to be a successful writer in the current iteration of the film industry, where franchises rule the day.

Before his work with Feige and Marvel, Waldron was probably best known as a writer on “Rick & Morty.” And interestingly enough, though that animated hit series is about as polar opposite of the family-friendly stuff being put out by Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, the cleverness of “Rick & Morty,” especially with how it handles sci-fi/fantasy elements probably makes Waldron an inspired pick to tackle something like “Star Wars.”

Of course, we have no idea when this “Star Wars” film will see the light of day. We know that Patty Jenkins is currently hard at work on “Star Wars: Rogue Squadron,” which is said to arrive in December 2023 and serve as the first film in the Post-Skywalker Saga “Star Wars” film franchise. So, at the earliest, we’re probably looking at 2025 for this film. That said, of all the projects in the galaxy far, far away currently in development, you can’t help but be intrigued most by what the architect of the MCU, Kevin Feige, can do with Lucasfilm’s greatest franchise.
