It seems after decades of trying to get along, the Glimmer Twins are content to just not hang out together. Keef Riffhard (aka Keith Richards) has been popping up in the “Pirates Of The Caribbean” movies and last fall released a highly acclaimed memoir “Life.” As for Mick Jagger, he’s gone ahead and formed a new supergroup, the dubiously named SuperHeavy, which features Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley and A.R. Rahman and now he’s getting ready for a rare return to the big screen in his first starring role in over a decade.
Josh Olson, best known for penning David Cronenberg‘s “A History Of Violence,” is the man behind “Tabloid” and Deadline reports that Jagger will possibly take on the lead role. Should it all come together Jagger will play “a global media mogul with dubious morality” in the thriller that will center on a young journalist who is “seduced and sucked into that immoral world.” While more details are scarce, could this possibly have anything to do with Rupert Murdoch and the phone hacking scandal? We’d be surprised if there wasn’t inspiration coming from that revelation which made headlines around the world.
Jagger’s track record on the big screen has been mixed at best, ranging from the classic (“Performance“), to the middling (“The Man From Elysian Fields“) to the outright hilarious/embarrassing (“Freejack“). Speaking of moguls, Steve Bing is financing the movie which Mick will produce through his Jagged Films banner which have brought to the big screen the WWII drama “Enigma” and the terrible remake of “The Women.” No word yet on when this might roll, but Olson is on a hot streak having also penned the first draft of the upcoming “One Shot” with Tom Cruise.
