With an actor like Mark Wahlberg and a director like Peter Berg, you definitely have an idea of what to expect when watching their films. And in the new trailer for “Mile 22” (the duo’s fourth collab), you get exactly what you expect – lots of gunfire and lots of Mark Wahlberg looking like a superhero.
No, Wahlberg isn’t wearing a cape or has any known superpowers, but the trailer shows that the man is truly invincible and not even a foreign government can survive his wrath. From what I can gather after watching the trailer, “Mile 22” follows an elite group of some super-secret anti-terrorist group led by Wahlberg and Lauren Cohan (“The Walking Dead”). They’re given the mission of taking a man to an airport, while everyone around them is attempting to murder them. As you might expect, there’s tons of action, lots of explosions, and apparently, a good amount of headshots.
As mentioned, the film is directed by Peter Berg, who has collaborated with Mark Wahlberg on a few previous films, including “Lone Survivor,” “Patriot’s Day,” and “Deepwater Horizon.” And joining Wahlberg and Cohan in the cast is none other than Ronda Rousey, as well as Iko Uwais and John Malkovich.
“Mile 22” is scheduled to hit theaters on August 17.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In a visceral modern thriller from the director of Lone Survivor, Mark Wahlberg stars as James Silva, an operative of the CIA’s most highly-prized and least-understood unit. Aided by a top-secret tactical command team, Silva must retrieve and transport an asset who holds life-threatening information to Mile 22 for extraction before the enemy closes in.
