Among the many things that comic-book fans have been requesting from the executive gatekeepers at Marvel has been a Spider-Man movie led by the Black Hispanic Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker. And after we’ve seen the webslinger played by Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland, a more diverse option for the superhero is finally arriving.

Sony confirmed today that their upcoming 3D animated Spider-Man will tell the story of Miles Morales. The ever-busy Phil Lord and Chris Miller (“21 Jump Street,” “The Lego Movie,” and of course, Disney‘s Han Solo spinoff) have penned the script, which is very promising stuff. Bringing it all to life will be directors Bob Persichetti (“The Little Prince“) and Peter Ramsey (“Rise Of The Guardians“). The untitled animated Spider-Man movie will hit theaters on December 21, 2018.
