Miramax & Paramount+ Teaming Up To Adapt Robert Altman’s ‘Prêt-à-Porter’ As A TV Series

Another week, another film from the past getting pulled off the shelf, dusted off, and repurposed for a streaming service. According to Deadline, Miramax is teaming with Paramount+ for a series inspired by Robert Altman’s 1994 ensemble film, “Prêt-à-Porter.” (Which is also known as “Ready to Wear (Prêt-à-Porter)” to American audiences.) The film features an all-star cast that includes folks such as Sophia Loren, Kim Basinger, Lauren Bacall, Julia Roberts, Tim Robbins, Forest Whitaker, and Tracey Ullman. “Prêt-à-Porter” follows various fashion designers from around the world as their lives all intersect at Paris Fashion Week.

Writer Ava Pickett is said to be developing the new series, which is seen as a continuation of the film but with a new generation of fashion designers trying to make names for themselves. The series, much like the 1994 Altman film, will include a diverse, international cast and is said to focus on the ideas of ambition, youth, and identity.

Altman’s film is far from his most beloved, with fairly middling reviews upon its release. However, it was a major film of its time, based primarily on his name and the star-studded cast. So, while it may not have the Oscars of something like “The English Patient,” there are likely those that will scoff at the idea of Miramax taking another film and trying to repackage it for new audiences.

It’s obviously far too early to know when we might see “Prêt-à-Porter” arrive on Paramount+. However, the streaming platform is still in its infancy, so you have to assume it would love to get as many big series up and going as quickly as possible. We’ll just have to wait and see.
