One of the most celebrated films coming out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival is “The Miseducation of Cameron Post.” The coming-of-age film won the Grand Jury Prize for US Drama, which is the most coveted award at the festival. So, without a doubt, this is a film that is expected to draw a lot of attention when it hits theaters later this summer.
As seen in the new trailer, the film stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a teen girl who is sent to a conversion therapy center, where the focus is to use the teachings of God to convert her character from a lesbian to straight. Pray the gay away, so to speak. There she meets a couple of like-minded individuals that also hate the camp and the ridiculous counselors. Then coming-of-age things happen. You know the deal.

Joining Moretz in the cast is John Gallagher Jr., Sasha Lane, Forrest Goodluck, Jennifer Ehle, Emily Skeggs, and Owen Campbell. The film is co-written and directed by Desiree Akhavan, who is probably best known for her debut film, which also premiered at Sundance, “Appropriate Behavior.”
“The Miseducation of Cameron Post” opens in select theaters on August 3.

From writer/director Desiree Akhavan and based on the celebrated novel by Emily M. Danforth, The Miseducation of Cameron Post follows Cameron (Chloë Grace Moretz) as she is sent to a gay conversion therapy center after getting caught with another girl in the back seat of a car on prom night. Run by the strict and severe Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother, Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.)—himself an example of how those in the program can be “cured”—the center is built upon repenting for “same sex attraction.” In the face of intolerance and denial, Cameron meets a group of fellow sinners including the amputee stoner Jane (Sasha Lane), and her friend, the Lakota Two-Spirit, Adam (Forrest Goodluck). Together, this group of teenagers form an unlikely family as they fight to survive.
