'Monster Hunter' Trailer: The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Are To Kill For Milla Jovovich

Based on the first trailer, “Monster Hunter” looks ridiculous. And not in a bad way. It’s clear that filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson is going for ridiculous in his film about military people fighting crazy monsters using oversized weapons.

The premise is fairly simple, but also ridiculous. A convoy of army people are magically teleported to some distant land where massive, Godzilla-sized monsters rule. They team up with a survivor of the land who apparently gives them some massive swords and whatnot to help them fight and find their way back home. Obviously, this is all based on a true story. Wait…*check notes*…oh, this is actually based on a massively popular video game franchise. That makes so much more sense!

And since this is directed by Anderson, you know that Milla Jovovich is leading the cast as the baddest badass of all the badasses. The duo, in addition to being married in real life, has worked together on a number of projects including five “Resident Evil” films. If you’ve seen any of those features, then you really know exactly the tone and style that you’re getting yourself into with “Monster Hunter.”

Rounding out the cast of the film are Tony Jaa, Tip “T. I.” Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta, Josh Helman, Jin Au-Yeung, and Ron Perlman.

Interestingly, this was set to be a massive theatrical release earlier this year, but the film has been delayed due to the pandemic, as has been the case for just about every blockbuster since March. Now, the film is expected to land in December, as the month has pretty much been cleared out of any major films other than “Wonder Woman 1984,” and let’s be real, that film is vacating soon enough.

Here’s the synopsis:

Behind our world, there is another: a world of dangerous and powerful monsters that rule their domain with deadly ferocity. When an unexpected sandstorm transports Captain Artemis (Milla Jovovich) and her unit (TI Harris, Meagan Good, Diego Boneta) to a new world, the soldiers are shocked to discover that this hostile and unknown environment is home to enormous and terrifying monsters immune to their firepower. In their desperate battle for survival, the unit encounters the mysterious Hunter (Tony Jaa), whose unique skills allow him to stay one step ahead of the powerful creatures. As Artemis and Hunter slowly build trust, she discovers that he is part of a team led by the Admiral (Ron Perlman). Facing a danger so great it could threaten to destroy their world, the brave warriors combine their unique abilities to band together for the ultimate showdown.
