Marvel Studios is really embracing the idea of Disney+. In a little more than a year, the studio has used the streaming platform to develop shows that dive a little deeper into the character stuff that we have come to know and love in the MCU. The studio also realizes it’s a great way to introduce new characters into the universe, such as in the show, “Ms. Marvel.”

As seen in the new trailer for “Ms. Marvel,” the series follows the origin of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), a young Muslim teen from New Jersey who is like everyone in the fandom—obsessed with superheroes. Except, Khan lives in the MCU and her love of Captain Marvel actually plays a role in her gaining superpowers and adopting a similar name to her idol. It’s a teen coming-of-age story about a young girl with familial expectations and the desire to be a hero. This is peak Marvel Studios shit, folks.
Joining Vellani in the cast of “Ms. Marvel” are Aramis Knight, Saagar Shaikh, Rish Shah, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Matt Lintz, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Nakli, Azhar Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha. The series is directed by Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Meera Menon, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
“Ms. Marvel” is set to hit Disney+ on June 8. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
Marvel Studios’ “Ms. Marvel” is a new, original series that introduces Kamala Khan, a Muslim American teenager growing up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fan-fiction scribe, Kamala is a Super Hero mega fan with an oversized imagination—particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel. Yet Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and sometimes even at home—that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life gets better with super powers, right?
