'My First Film' Trailer: Zia Anger's Feature Debut Hits Theaters On August 30, Streams On MUBI On September 6

What’s the worst that could happen making a movie for the first time? In “My First Film,” Zia Anger‘s directorial debut, it’s any number of “firsts” and the fears that come with them. Oh, and an unexpected pregnancy; that’s an easy way for things to spiral out of control.

Fresh off its world premiere at CPH:DOX earlier this year, Anger’s debut stars Odessa Young as Vita, who sets out to make her first movie with a crew of friends, funded by crowdsourcing. But of course nothing goes according to plan behind the scenes, as “My First Film” blurs the line between feature and documentary to explore filmmaking as an art, an aggravation, and a healing tool.  And bet that this one is a super-personal endeavor, with Anger taking inspiration from her solo performance piece of the same name.

Here’s an official trailer for “My First Film,” courtesy of MUBI:

A young filmmaker, Vita, revisits her first chaotic attempt at filmmaking 15 years prior. Shooting a semi-autobiographical film starring her friend Dina, Vita’s eager but inexperienced approach causes the production to spiral into chaos, leading to significant disruptions and a near-fatal accident.

“My First Film” also stars Devon Ross, Cole Doman, Jane Wickline, Philip Ettinger, Eamon Farren, Eleanore Hendricks, and Sage Ftacek.

Along with directing, Anger also co-writes “My First Film” with Billy Feldman.  Tyler Shung and Riel Roch-Decter produce the film, with original music by Perfume Genius.

After its limited theatrical run on August 30, “My First Film” streams exclusively on MUBI on September 6. Watch a trailer for Anger’s debut below.
