According to Deadline, Portman and Nyong’o are set to play the leads in “Lady in the Lake,” Apple TV+’s upcoming limited series based on the bestselling book by author Laura Lippman. The series will be directed by “Honey Boy” filmmaker Alma Har’el, who is penning the pilot episode herself and co-writing the remainder of the series alongside Dre Ryan. “Lady in the Lake” follows the story of a ‘60s housewife and mother, Maddie Schwartz (Portman), that reinvents herself as an investigative journalist. In her new role, she comes across Cleo Sherwood (Nyong’o), a mother that is also instrumental in pushing forward Baltimore’s Black progressive agenda.

As mentioned, “Lady in the Lake” marks the TV debuts of both Portman and Nyong’o. Portman is probably best known for her Oscar-nominated roles in films such as “Closer,” “Jackie,” and “Black Swan,” the latter of which earned her the coveted trophy. Nyong’o also has an Oscar on her shelf from her performance in the film, “12 Years a Slave.” More recently, she earned rave reviews and acclaim for her work in Jordan Peele’s horror film, “Us.”
