The story of the long-developing "Jackie" is a bit detailed, so bear with us: Back in 2010, Steven Spielberg was eyeing the hot Noah Oppenheim script as something to potentially produce over at HBO. Then Darren Aronofsky and Rachel Weisz were eyeballing it as the director’s next movie after "Black Swan," but both moved on after their relationship ended. A couple of years later, "Black Swan" star Natalie Portman eyed the project as a starring vehicle, and not only is it now happening, but it has a great director attached.
Variety reports that Natalie Portman will take the title role in the movie that now has Pablo Larrain ("No," "Post Mortem") at the helm, with Aronofsky producing. The script follows Jackie Kennedy during the four days between her husband’s infamous assassination and his burial. Back in the day we took a look at the script, and it sees the First Lady caught up in the wrangling between the Kennedy camp and Lyndon Johnson’s crew who are eager to obtain leadership, and move into the White House as soon as possible. But as exciting as this is, both the actress and director have projects coming up first.
In fact, Larrain will next direct the biopic "Neruda" about the famous poet, with Luis Gnecco in the title role and Gael Garcia Bernal joining as Inspector Oscar Peluchoneau, the officer who led the manhunt for the activist writer. Production on the movie begins this summer.
Meanwhile, Portman adds to her ever growing slate with "Planetarium." She’ll co-star with Lily Rose Depp in the next film from "Grand Central" director Rebecca Zlotowski, that takes place in the ’30s and follows a pair of sisters who possess the supernatural ability to connect to ghosts. The film will shoot in September, and after that, Portman is expected to jump to "On The Basis Of Sex" where she’ll play Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and then star in Alex Garland‘s sci-fi "Annihilation." And if Portman wasn’t busy enough, she’s getting ready to debut her directorial feature "A Tale Of Love And Darkness" at Cannes.
