Moving to a new country can be a stressful time in your life, well they actually say that moving is the most stressful thing to do, so moving countries must be a whole different ball game. Durkin returns to the big screen after an eight year absence from it (thought he did direct the TV mini-series “Southcliffe,”  in 2013, but it was unfortunately largely unseen outside the U.K.). “Martha Marcy May Marlene” showcased just how strong he was as a director, with our review from Sundance 2011 saying the films “of haunting beauty that marks Durkin’s arrival as a subtle and strong director to watch.”

Now after his long absence, he is back with what could be a film even creepier than his last. He has chosen England, a large manor house and a family that has been so used to living in an American suburb. This will be a culture shock to the family but also one where the quietness will be enough to drive each member of the family insanity. That’s what Durkin wants, “Martha Marcy May Marlene” saw the inner self destruction of a women, now it seems he wants to look at how the change in scenery and eeriness can affect a family’s mental state.
