2019 is starting out just where 2018 left off. That is, if your name is Netflix and you have a seemingly endless pile of cash. As you might expect, given the history, the streaming service has decided to begin development on another massively expensive TV series, mining from yet another popular source material.
According to Deadline, Netflix has decided to turn the popular novel series, “Shadow and Bone,” into a new fantasy TV show for its streaming service. And to sweeten the pot for those who might not have heard of author Leigh Bardugo’s popular series, the streaming service has hired writer Eric Heisserer and “Stranger Things” producer Shawn Levy to develop the new show.
“Shadow and Bone” will be an eight-episode series that will tell the story of a young warrior that attempts to find the special power that will unite her country and save themselves from beasts that emanate from a magical barrier of darkness.
Heisserer will serve as the writer and showrunner for the series. He’s probably best known for his most recent film work on the script for 2018’s most meme-iest film “Bird Box.” However, he was also Oscar-nominated for his work on the film “Arrival.” His next film work will be in the upcoming superhero film “Bloodshot,” which stars Vin Diesel.
Levy is a producer that has his hands in a lot of various pots, so to speak. Other than the massive Netflix hit, “Stranger Things,” his production company has worked on projects like the aforementioned “Arrival,” “Kin,” and “The Darkest Minds.”
There’s no release date for “Shadow and Bone” as of yet, but the series is just another major project that we can throw on the pile of massive films and TV series that Netflix is currently developing.
