*”Bloodline” Season 2 spoilers ahead** As a huge fan of “Bloodline” season one, I was hugely anticipating the second season, and while I didn’t dislike it quite so much as my colleague, by time the conclusion came at the end of the tenth episode, I asked myself, “That’s it?” It was underwhelming affair all around, with some rather dubious narrative choices (the death of Marco Diaz seemed particularly hackneyed), but it did leave on a note that’s too intriguing not to be curious about: Kyle Chandler‘s John Rayburn on the run. And we’ll find out what happens to him.
Netflix has announced that they’ve renewed “Bloodline” for season 3. Depending on how you felt about the flashbacks in season two for Ben Mendelsohn‘s deceased Danny Rayburn, the good or bad news is that he will be back, along with Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek, Linda Cardellini, and Norbert Leo Butz. I love Mendelsohn as much as the next person, but I feel the story needs to let go of Danny and start moving on.
No word yet on when production will begin, but the new episodes will hit Netflix in 2017. Press release below.
(Beverly Hills, CA – July 13, 2016) – Netflix has ordered a third season of the Netflix original series, Bloodline, from creators Todd A. Kessler, Daniel Zelman and Glenn Kessler (“KZK”), a dramatic thriller that centers on a family of adult siblings whose secrets and scars are revealed when their black sheep brother returns home. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the ten episode third season starring Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek, Ben Mendelsohn, Linda Cardellini, and Norbert Leo Butz will return to Netflix in 2017. Seasons one and two are currently streaming on Netflix in 4k.
“Todd, Daniel, and Glenn have created a riveting family saga featuring one of the most talented ensembles in the history of television. We can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds for the all-too-human Rayburns,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix.
The Emmy®, Golden Globe®, and WGA nominated dramatic thriller explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. In Bloodline, the Rayburns are hard-working pillars of their Florida Keys community, but their past contains dark secrets that they hope remain buried. Paranoia and mistrust build as lies pile up, alliances are shattered, and an unthinkable crime takes place. The tight-knit family’s formerly harmonious relationship deteriorates, and good people are forced to consider doing very bad things.
Bloodline is created and executive produced by the Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated writers/executive producers Kessler, Zelman, Kessler. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television for Netflix.
