The days of teenage rebellion are alive and well in Augustine Frizzell‘s writing and directorial debut “Never Goin’ Back.” It feels like the filmmaker came out of nowhere. But Frizzell has been working in the industry for a while now. Frizzell’s work has been comprised of small roles in feature films including “A Ghost Story” and “Pete’s Dragon.” Here, we have a movie that is nothing like those she’s been in before.

Frizzell greets audiences with a wink and a middle finger in this first trailer. The film focuses on the relationship between two high school dropouts, Angela and Jessie. It’s another refreshing take on the relationships forged between women. Throughout the trailer, the two are plotting their escape to the beach. After her stint on “The Fosters,” we get to see Maia Mitchell flex her comedy muscles. And a brand new face we haven’t seen is that of Camila Morrone. Behind the rebellious romp is A24. The company championed “Lady Bird” less than a year ago to great critical acclaim. But this movie makes Christine McPherson look like a good Catholic school girl.
