For a few weeks now, fans have been puzzling over the names of the deleted scenes that will be appearing on the forthcoming home video release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The titles — Finn and The Villager, Jakku Message, X-Wings Prepare for Lightspeed, Kylo Searches The Falcon, Snow Speeder Chase, Finn Will Be Fine — don’t give away much, and don’t suggest there’s any kind of major plot point that was cut from the movie awaiting your eyes on the extras. But with a few more marketing dollars to spend, Disney has shared with EW some new photos and details about what those sequences will entail.
“There are so many things that end up getting cut because of the greater good, because of the rhythm of the sequence or the need to get on with it, a sense of redundancy,” director J.J. Abrams said about why certain moments were snipped. “You don’t know any of these things when you’re making the movie, of course. It was sometimes after months of working on something that you realize finally — you just don’t need it.”
With that in mind, here are the moments Abrams excised from the film:
—an extra moment with FN-2187 on Jakku having a crisis of conscience
—Han Solo talking his way out of trouble with stormtroopers at Maz Kanata’s cantina (this scene is only on the digital version of the movie, which you can also download if you buy the Blu-ray)
—Kylo Ren investigating his Dad’s ship aka the Millennium Falcon on Starkiller Base
—General Leia learning of what happens on Jakku, which brings her into the movie much earlier
—more of Poe being a badass pilot
—another moment with Rey looking over the injured Finn at the Resistance base following the battle with Kylo Ren
—a snow speeder chase on Starkiller Base
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits digital download on April 1st and then Blu-ray on April 5th.
