Yeah, we know, the whole fairy-tale-reimagining thing is getting pretty played out and boring, but it’s not going to end anytime soon. Disney already has “Maleficent,” “Cinderella” and yes, even a live action redo of “Beauty And The Beast” in the pipeline, but our attention is focused overseas where Christoph Gans will hopefully shake up this latest cinematic trend with his own take on the latter bedtime tale.
New images have landed for “Beauty And The Beast,” starring recent Cannes Palme d’Or winner Lea Seydoux (yes, the first time it’s happened in history, sharing the prize with her co-star and director of the upcoming romance “Blue Is The Warmest Color“) and Vincent Cassel, but they’re not showing everything off just yet. As you’ll notice, while we get a good few looks at the Beauty, the Beast isn’t seen except for one shot from behind, but nonetheless it’s pretty compelling regardless. Perhaps more curiously, the effort is said to resemble the films of Hayao Miyazaki instead of previous takes on the fairy tale by Jean Cocteau and Disney. Hmm…
Still a while to go before it lands in theatres in the U.S., but “Beauty And The Beast” will open in France on February 12, 2014. [Filmosphere]
