New 'The Innocents' Trailer: Guy Pearce Stars In A Teenage Shape-Shifting Love Story

Who would have thought that shape-shifting would be such a bummer? In the new Netflix series “The Innocents,” two teens run away to be together, but when one of the teens finds out she has the ability to shape-shift and become other people, all hell breaks loose.

Seriously, being able to shape-shift really must be the worst. The trailer for the series shows that June, the shape-shifting teen, is struggling to keep control of her abilities. She’s not able to pick and choose when she becomes another person. Instead, she takes the personas of a bearded man, a woman at a club, and maybe her mother? It all happened so fast, it’s hard to tell. One thing is for sure, Guy Pearce stars in the series and that can never be a bad thing.

Most of the series’ eight episodes are directed by Farren Blackburn. While the filmmaker has dipped his toes in the features department, most recently with “Shut In,” starring Naomi Watts, Blackburn is probably best known for his work on a variety of TV series, including a few of the Marvel/Netflix shows like “Daredevil,” “Iron Fist,” and “The Defenders.”

“The Innocents” premieres on Netflix on August 24.

Here’s the synopsis:

When teenagers Harry and June run away from their repressive families to be together, they’re derailed by an extraordinary discovery – June’s ability to shape-shift. As the star-crossed lovers struggle to control this strange new power, a mysterious professor reveals that June is not alone: there are more shifters out there like her, and he promises to cure June and reunite her with the mother who deserted her three years ago. But as their journey becomes increasingly fraught with danger, Harry and June’s love for each other is tested to breaking point and they’re faced with a choice: keep their innocent dream alive, or embrace that their lives have changed and risk everything. Created and written by Hania Elkington and Simon Duric, who also executive produce, The Innocents stars Sorcha Groundsell as June, Percelle Ascott as Harry and Guy Pearce as Halvorson. Elaine Pyke, Charlie Pattinson, and Willow Grylls of New Pictures serve as Executive Producers, along with Farren Blackburn. Blackburn directed six of the eight episodes. Premieres Aug 24.
