Given all the mortal wounds, broken bones, bruises, and old aging, there had been a twelve-year gap between “Jackass 3D” and the fourth “Jackass” film. However, the crew of stuntmen pranksters made their glorious return earlier this year alongside new additions to the roster for “Jackass Forever.” Many assumed the introduction of fresh-faced newbies was a sign that a series was eventually going to go forward and it looks like that is indeed the case.
Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish has announced during the company’s Q1 earnings call Tuesday (via Variety) that a new “Jackass” series is coming to Paramount+, however, it’s unclear what the project will look like and who will be returning.
“Based off the success of ‘Jackass Forever,’ we’re working with the creators to continue the partnership with a new series, bringing even more ridiculous antics straight to Paramount+,” Bakish said of the newly announced series.
It’s debatable if we’ll see classic members like Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Jason “Wee Man” Acuña, Preston Lacy, Chris Pontius, Dave England, and Ehren McGhehey participate in the future movies or series, at least in the stunts themselves. Given the ages of these fellas (Knoxville at 50 and admitting that he really had to convince some of his castmates to return), the likelihood they’re going to be involved as heavily as the newbies in this Paramount+ series seems unlikely. No one wants to keep putting their body in harm’s way during middle age.
Knoxville was also skeptical of his involvement with the series back in January while speaking with Screen Rant.
“I don’t think we’ll ever resurrect the series though because we’ve tasted what it’s like to be able to do whatever we want in films. There could be another film, possibly. We have the younger cast, a ton of ideas. But like [Jeff Tremaine] said, we don’t make plans,” Knoxville said of future “Jackass” installments.
Those aforementioned new additions to the “Jackass” team include Rachel Wolfson, Zach Holmes, Jasper Dolphin, and Sean McInerney, which we assume will return for this new streaming series.
It’s unknown if the film’s celeb cameos like Eric Andre, Tyler The Creator, Machine Gun Kelly, or others from “Jackass Forever” will be involved. However, you could hypothetically see someone like Andre, who already does a lot of similar stuff on “The Eric Andre Show,” take a larger role following his similar role with director Jeff Tremaine on the film “Bad Trip.”
Either way, fans won’t have to wait long too long for more “Jackass” as “Jackass 4.5” will hit Netflix on May 20, featuring a bunch of cutting room footage.
