New Look: Meryl Streep & Jim Broadbent As Margaret & Denis Thatcher In ‘The Iron Lady’

Here is the latest look at Meryl Streep and Jim Broadbent in the upcoming Margaret Thatcher biopic, “The Iron Lady,” which will see Streep reunite with her “Mamma Mia” director Phyllida Lloyd.

The image is from a “recreation of the 1980 Conservative Party conference at Brighton, when the ‘Fighting Lady’ put the country on alert over battles with unions regarding pay and jobs” which is reportedly used to “demonstrate Mrs Thatcher’s dominance of, and popularity within, her party — as well as her deep unpopularity in the other half of the nation.” As a whole, the film is noted to explore “a big spectrum of her life in order to sum up the kind of person she was, and why she has this iconic status.”

Already touted as potentially another Streep masterclass, the project also features a illustrious British cast including Olivia Coleman who’ll play the Thatchers’ daughter Carol; Alexandra Roach and Harry Lloyd as young Margaret & Denis; Anthony Head (best known for his work in “Buffy“) as Thatcher’s long serving colleague Geoffrey Howe; Angus Wright as Secretary of State for Defence John Nott; Richard E. Grant as Thatcher’s rival Michael Heseltine, Julian Wadham as Foreign Secretary Francis Pym; and Michael Pennington will play Labour party leader Michael Foot.

While Fox will distribute the film in the U.K., no U.S. distributor is currently on board but that is likely to change when footage is screened at Cannes next month for buyers. [Baz Bamigboye/Daily Mail]
