New Posters And Images From Floria Sigismondi's 'The Runaways'

After mixed critical reception for its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, little has since been heard from Floria Sigismondi’s “The Runaways,” which stars Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning respectively as Joan Jett and Cherie Currie.

With only weeks until its theatrical release, new promotional images and what looks like new posters from the film have leaked online courtesy of the ever-reliable (see her triumph over Carey Mulligan, Tahar Rahim and Nicholas Hoult in the fan-voted Rising Star award at the BAFTA’s) online Kristen Stewart fan community.

The posters reflect the film’s reported predominant exploration of Jett and Currie’s relationship on the backdrop the rise and fall of young rockstars in 1970’s culture.

Promotional images, meanwhile, include an updated version of a 1976 magazine cover the band did for Crawdaddy magazine, a rock n’ roll criticism magazine formed in ’60s. We’ve got the side-by-side comparison of the re-do with the original cover and although the position of band members is slightly altered, the cover retains all the same headlines and Currie in the center.

Also, note that the pink flyer-type promo features a Currie-less Runaways — the lead singer left the band in 1977 which saw Jett take over lead vocals.

Co-starring in the film are the likes of Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford, Stella Maeve as Sandy West, Alia Shawkat as a fictionalized composite of the band’s many bass players named Robin and Michael Shannon in a potentially scene-stealing role as the band’s exploitative manager, Kim Fowley.

“The Runaways” hits theaters March 19th via Apparition.
