A new red-band trailer for Todd Phillip’s “The Hangover” has been unveiled on the eve of the film’s release and is sure to bring a bunch of laughter your way (spoiler: the baby masturbation scene made us LOL).
Speaking about the film with the New York Times, Phillips confessed that the “bachelor party movie where you never see the bachelor party” was driven by the challenge itself of how to “make it interesting when it’s all the next day.”
“There’s a mystery underneath it [though] and in a weird way it’s almost like a detective story,” added the director. The film follows three groomsmen (played by Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis) who wake up from a bachelor party to find their groom has been lost in the previous night of drunken debauchery.
Phillips exploration of male relationships was first inspired somewhat by the absence of a male father figure during his childhood but has now become a favorite subject of his. “They can be so awkward,” he said of male to male interactions, “and I like to explore the awkwardness.” The film will also continue Phillip’s tradition of R-rated comedies that consists of the successful “Old School” and “Road Trip” and not the unsuccessful PG-13 film, “School for Scoundrels.” “I’m just an R-rated guy,” he said of the later film’s failure. “I was born bad. That’s what my mom used to tell me when I would get caught for shoplifting.”
One of the film’s stars, Zach Galifianakis, had no problems with Phillip’s philosophies and inspirations. “The dirtier the better for me,” he admitted. “Todd wanted to show this gross, more real part of Vegas that you see during the day, with the stains on the sidewalk.”

The most hilarious quote of the Times article? Phillps trying to direct Mike Tyson (who has a cameo) into properly throwing a punch for the camera. Tyson’s response? “Mike immediately goes, ‘Oh, man, this is great. I’m getting taught to punch by the captain of the Jewish debating team.’ ” Btw, the “baby masturbating scene” was something that Galifinakis ad-libbed, Phillips loved and immediately asked the mother of the child if it was OK. “Do you mind if a grown man is acting like he’s jerking off your baby?,” Galifinakis laughed in an interview.
