New Trailer For Leonard Nimoy Doc 'For The Love Of Spock' Remembers An Icon

As “Star Trek” fans celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary this year, and eagerly await “Star Trek Beyond,” there’s another ‘Trek’ film coming out and it might just be the icing on the cake. The trailer for the documentary “For the Love of Spock” has arrived, and it promises a touching, honest look at the life and career of Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy.

Directed by Nimoy’s son, Adam Nimoy, “For the Love of Spock” was conceived by both before Leonard’s passing in 2015. They wanted to create a movie that told the full story of the actor behind one of pop culture’s most iconic characters. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the finished project covers Nimoy’s humble beginnings arriving in Hollywood to playing the role of a lifetime for almost 50 years. The documentary gives audiences an in-depth look at a man that became beloved by generations of fans. Here’s the full synopsis:

Laden with never-before-seen footage and interviews of friends, family and colleagues, For the Love of Spock tells the life of Star Trek’s Mr. Spock and the actor who played him for nearly fifty years, Leonard Nimoy. The film’s focus began as a celebration of the fifty-year anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series, but after Leonard passed away in February 2015, his son, director Adam Nimoy, was ready to tell another story: his personal experience growing up with Leonard and Spock. Adam not only shares details on the creation, evolution, and universal impact of Mr. Spock, but also about the ups and downs of being the son of a TV icon.

“For the Love of Spock” features interviews with ‘Trek’ cast members from the ’60s TV show to the current movies, all conducted by Adam himself. The doc is set to be released in select theaters and Video On Demand on September 9th.
