Got a Tip?

Newcomer Landry Bender Latest Addition To David Gordon Green’s ‘The Sitter’

We’re still six months or so from the release of the latest comedy from David Gordon Green, the fantasy homage “Your Highness,” with James Franco, Danny McBride, Zooey Deschanel and Natalie Portman, but the indie helmer-turned-studio-comedy guy is already getting ready for his next, “The Sitter,” which stars Jonah Hill as a college student who ends up on a wild night after agreeing to babysit the three kids next door.

The excellent Ari Graynor joined the cast recently, as Hill’s girlfriend, and there was an intriguing report that Joaquin Phoenix nearly signed on, although that’s definitely not happening. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has news that the first of the three kids have been cast: newcomer Landry Bender. The child actress, apparently a veteran of Arizona theater, will play the youngest of the three, Blithe, an 8-year-old who wants to grow up to be Paris Hilton.

Filming kicks off on Monday, so we imagine the rest of the cast will be announced between now and then. We enjoyed the somewhat slight script when we read it, so we’re anticipating this one, even if we sort of wish Gordon Green would leave comedy alone for a while and make another “Undertow” or “All The Real Girls” — but hopefully the Dustin Lance Black-penned Barefoot Bandit movie will fill that gap.

“The Sitter” opens on July 15th, 2011.
