A Young Girl And Her Robot Prepare To Save The World In Trailer For Netflix’s Animated ‘Next Gen’

Are you ready for the next innovation in technology? It’s not a phone or a variation of a contraption that can eavesdrop on your conversations. The latest in tech is a friendly robot who is here to save the world…before the other robots can destroy it.

Coming to Netflix in 2018 is “Next Gen,” the story of a young woman who befriends a robot far more empathetic than the technological world around her. Together, the pair forms a meaningful bond that goes beyond the nuts and bolts makeup of any machine. The animated film marks the feature-length debut for directors Kevin R. Adams and Joe Ksander who both have cultivated extensive careers in film animation and effects.

While the directing pair may have yet to make their mark in the industry, the film’s cast has familiar names. Lending their voices to the film are John Krasinski, David CrossCharlyne Yi, Jason Sudeikis, Michael Peña, and Constance Wu, among others.

The film marks one of many Netflix productions coming out later this year. Netflix’s model is built on the opportunity for every subscriber to find something that peaks their interest. “Next Gen” will be the newest addition to Netflix’s ever-growing original content, with this being the streaming service’s first attempt at a major children’s movie. So grab your best friend, whether they be human or machine, and prepare to take on the world with this latest addition to the streaming giant’s content.

“Next Gen” will be released September 7.

Here’s the official synopsis and trailer:

NEXT GEN is an animated action-adventure film about the bittersweet power of memories. It tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a rebellious girl and a runaway combat robot, as they unite to stop a madman’s plan for technological world domination.
