Elizabeth Banks To Star In Film About The True Story Of A Woman Who Won A Date With Prince

A film about a woman in a small cowboy town that wins a date with one of the biggest rock stars in the world sounds like a seriously contrived work of fiction, right? Well, not only is it true, it happened in 1986 with a woman who won an MTV contest to go out on a date with Prince. Not “a prince,” but actual, purple-clad, guitar-toting rock star Prince. And according to Deadline, Elizabeth Banks has signed on to bring this incredible true story to the big screen.

The film, “Queen for a Day,” will tell the story of Lisa Barber, who lived in Sheridan, Wyoming and was a big Motley Crue fan, and won a date with Prince during an MTV contest to promote his film “Under the Cherry Moon.” She was the 10,000th caller, and was not only gifted with a date, but Prince also brought his whole circus to her hometown for a special performance. The film will follow Barber and a Manhattan PR executive that brought the whole contest together. And since you’re probably wondering, no, Prince will not be featured in the film, but the report says “his presence will hover.”

Banks will produce and star in the film. It’s not made explicit which role Banks will portray. “Queen for a Day” is based on the Daily Beast story “When Prince Made a Chambermaid His Queen for a Day.” The script is written by Josh Stolberg but will be re-written by newcomer Flora Greeson.

There’s no word on who might sign on to direct the film, perhaps Banks will do triple-duty, or a start date for filming, but we can expect this film to be pretty darn entertaining if the source material is any indication.
