The more time that passed between news on Andrea Arnold’s new version of “Wuthering Heights,” the more nervous we got; Arnold was announced as director in January, and “Skins” star Kaya Scodelario was announced as one of the leads at Easter, but it’s all been quiet since then, with no news on the casting of the key role of Heathcliff, and we were beginning to worry if the project had fallen apart.
But the good news, according to Deadline, is that the film is still moving ahead, and that actress Nichola Burley has joined the cast, in the ‘third lead’ (presumably as Catherine, Heathcliff’s great love, unless Scodelario is pulling double-duty).
Burley’s probably best known for her role in the horror flick “Donkey Punch,” but she was also the lead in the UK sleeper hit “StreetDance 3D,” and gave an excellent performance in the indie thriller “Kicks.” Her star’s on the rise, too, with roles in the upcoming BBC series “Candy Cabs” and the London Film Festival entry “Edge” on the way. There’s still no word on who’ll play Heathcliff, but with shooting kicking off in Yorkshire shortly, we’d expect some firm news soon.
