Got a Tip?

Nicole Kidman Circles James Wan’s Low Budget Horror Pic ‘Spectre’

While we may not be huge fans of his oeuvre, it’s easy to see why Hollywood loves director James Wan. He delivers big scares and big box office on tiny budgets. In fact, “Insidious” is already past $50 million domestic with worldwide numbers still to come in all on a tiny cost of $1.5 million. Not bad. So it’s no wonder talent around Hollywood is paying attention, and for his next film, the director may be working with one of the respected actresses in the game.

In the midst of a Variety report about some projects being shopped at Cannes, is an interesting nugget of info: Nicole Kidman is in talks to star in “Spectre” for Wan. Of course, there are zero details on the proposed plot but we think it’s pretty safe to at least ballpark what kind of movie this will be.

If it seems like an odd choice for Kidman, she’s been mixing it up lately. She appeared earlier this year in Adam Sandler‘s “Just Go With It” and she’s got the Joel Schumacher thriller “Trespass” arriving later this year. So she’s no stranger to slumming it or just taking on a part outside of her normal wheelhouse. But as with any project looking for buyers, this isn’t a done deal yet and Kidman has quite a few potential projects on her plate.

There’s the long-gestating “The Danish Girl” with Rachel Weisz that was going to shoot this summer but we presume is now delayed again as that actress recently boarded “Oz The Great And Powerful” set to lens in July. Kidman also has Park Chan-Wook‘s “Stoker” and “Our Wild Life” as other possibilities on the horizon. So producers will probably wait to see how it plays out in the market before anything is set. But with a budget of under $10 million, covering the costs of “Spectre” shouldn’t be too difficult.
