North Korea don’t like a lot of things about the West, but they really don’t like Seth Rogen and James Franco‘s "The Interview." Then again, it’s not every day that a movie comes along where the central plot is the assassination of your leader, and North Korea has already called the movie "undisguised terrorism" and akin to an act of war. And now the country is taking this all the way to the U.N.
North Korea’s U.N. Ambassador Ja Song Nam penned a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the end of June, strongly stating that "The Interview" should essentially be outlawed. "To allow the production and distribution of such a film on the assassination of an incumbent head of a sovereign state should be regarded as the most undisguised sponsoring of terrorism as well as an act of war," the correspondence stated. "The United States authorities should take immediate and appropriate actions to ban the production and distribution of the aforementioned film; otherwise, it will be fully responsible for encouraging and sponsoring terrorism."
Strong, strong words. But also more free publicity for the film that most North Koreans probably won’t see anyway, except for maybe Kim Jong Un….who may or may not get killed in the movie. Find out when "The Interview" opens on October 10th.
