Among the many, many, many things that made "Anchorman" such a perfectly calibrated comedy was its decision to set it in San Diego. The story of an egotistical man-child newsman could only really work in a city that (at the time) would be considered a small market, where such behaviour could go unchecked as long as professionalism stayed intact when it came to newstime. But of course, bigger and better things were on the horizon for Ron Burgundy as that film ended, and it looks like he'll be saying goodbye to that whale's vagina.
Empire recently sat down with writer/director Adam McKay and chatted about the forthcoming sequel "Anchorman: The Legend Continues," and while still tight lipped on exact details, he did offer up this kernel. "San Diego is too close to Ron's heart to go away, but we feel that New York City is the holy grail for all newsmen," McKay said, so it seems the Channel 4 team will be swimming in a bigger pond. That isn't a suprise given that it has already been said the movie will be tackling the rise of the 24-hour news cycle, and there's probably no better place than the Big Apple to reflect the growing news media monster.
But that's not all. With Kristen Wiig slated to play Mrs. Brick Tamland, it looks like the future official in the George Bush White House will also be undergoing his own transformation. "Brick's so far gone that you can't have a relationship with him," McKay said. "It takes a special someone to get a rope snare around his heart. She is dangerous!"
Still lots of surprises and more to find out. "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" will shoot this spring, and broadcast in theaters on December 20th.
