This week sees the release of, “Novocaine,” a new action-comedy starring Jack Quaid (“The Boys,” “Companion”), Ray Nicholson (“Smile 2”), Jacob Batalon (“Spider-Man: No Way Home”), and Amber Midthunder (“Prey,” “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” ), as the Paramount Pictures flick is making its theatrical debut on March 14. With that in mind, the studio has dropped a final trailer highlighting the buzzy reactions from various outlets praising the inventive genre film mixing humor with intense action.
One of the big gimmicks of the film (listed by The Playlist as one of the 100 must-see films of 2025) is that Nate, played by Quaid, is incapable of feeling pain making him quite the tough cookie as he tries to rescue the girl of his dreams from a group of violent thugs.
“Novocaine” was directed by the duo of Dan Berk and Robert Olsen (“Villains”) from a script penned by Lars Jacobson (“Day of The Dead: Bloodlines”) with a producing team that features Paul Barbeau, Glen Basner, Josh Adler, Jacobson, Alison Cohen, Drew Simon, Tory Tunnell, Joby Harold, Sam Speiser, Matt Schwartz, and Julian Rosenberg.
Paramount‘s official logline for the new action-thriller:
When the girl of his dreams (Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.
From the trailer itself, it feels like the movie is taking visual pages from the fast-paced “Crank” films that starred Jason Statham and have employed some equally cool ways of shooting action sequences with heart-pumping techniques that place the audience right in the middle of the fray. Not to mention the humorous tone.
