Lionsgate Brings In 'American Hustle' Writer To Script 'Now You See Me 3'

In true magician fashion, Lionsgate has pulled a third “Now You See Me” film out of a hat. And this time, the film has a new creative mind leading the way.

According to Lionsgate, writer Eric Warren Singer has been hired to pen the script for the third “Now You See Me” film. The plot for the film isn’t known at this time, but the two previous movies followed the story of a group of magicians that used their abilities to perform magical heists and illusions to avoid the law. The previous two films in the series starred actors such as Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, Mark Ruffalo, and Morgan Freeman. It’s unclear at this time if any of those actors will be returning for the threequel.

Singer is probably best known for earning an Oscar nomination for his work on the script for “American Hustle.” However, since then, he’s written the films “Only the Brave” and the upcoming blockbuster “Top Gun: Maverick.” So, it would make sense that he’ll lend his action-adventure pedigree to the “Now You See Me” franchise, which has often put style and thrills over substance.

“Eric has always been fascinated with the fine art of deception and illusion in all of its forms and he came to us with a great story that takes the mythology of ‘Now You See Me’ and pushes The Four Horsemen to a whole new level with our key returning cast and new characters,” said Nathan Kahane, President of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “The ‘Now You See Me’ franchise has been built on keeping the audience surprised and guessing. Any great magician knows, you can’t keep doing the same tricks. And Eric and his team of illusionists have something special up their sleeve for this new film.”

Producer Alex Kurtzman, who has worked on the previous two films in the series, is set to return to the upcoming threequel. He’s joined by Bobby Cohen, Meredith Wieck, and Aaron Edmonds.

There’s no release date set for “Now You See Me 3.”
