'The Nun' Trailer: New 'Conjuring' Spin-Off Asks You To Pray For Forgiveness

James Wan’s “The Conjuring” universe is a force to be reckoned with and it looks like we are about to be hit with the darkest version yet. The newest entry to the series is Corin Hardy‘s spin-off “The Nun” which will star Demian Bichir and Taissa Farmiga.

Much like “Annabelle” and “Annabelle’s Creation,” the story of “The Nun” is also a prequel. However, this time the horror takes place in Romania where the Vatican sends a priest and exorcist, Father Burke,  and a novitiate, Sister Irene, on the threshold of her final vows to investigate after a young nun commits suicide at the convent. Together, the duo uncovers the order’s unholy secret, risking their lives and their very souls to confront the demon.

Taissa Farmiga, who is best known for her role in “American Horror Story,” seems to be the perfect fit for the chilling role of Sister Irene. With her experience acting in horror, along with what Hardy has described as a feel for really classic, old-school, scarlet-blooded horror films, she is sure to bring a bone-chilling performance as she faces the demon.

The film is written by  “IT” and Annabelle scribe Gary Dauberman, who co-wrote the story with Wan.

Here is the official synopsis for “The Nun:”

“When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in “The Conjuring 2,” as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.”
